Project Overview

When the founders of Cannavation first engaged Sostanza, they were operating Jungle Farms—a low-tech greenhouse cultivation site in Phuket, Thailand. Recognizing the rapid shift toward pharmaceutical-grade standards, they sought to design and construct a separate, state-of-the-art indoor facility. This new site was envisioned exclusively for highly controlled, export-grade medical cannabis production targeting international markets
Sostanza partnered with Cannavation from the conceptual phase through structural execution, delivering complete space designs, advanced thermodynamic HVAC calculations, automated fertigation plans, and custom GACP/GMP standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Our Hands-on Operational Interventions

1. Architectural Spatial Layout & Biosecurity Zoning​
To prepare the facility for strict international audits, Sostanza developed custom spatial layouts that enforce high operational hygiene. Our engineering team designed dedicated airlocks between GACP cultivation areas and GMP post-harvest zones. We also modified initial floor plans by transitioning the planned showers into locker and gowning rooms to optimize biosecurity, while configuring two distinct drying rooms to protect chemical profiles during post-harvest processing.

2. Advanced Airflow and HVAC Engineering
Managing air dynamics in high-humidity regions is critical to preventing microbial issues. Sostanza collaborated with expert HVAC and airflow consultants to calculate precise Cubic Feet per Minute (CFM) parameters and optimize the HVAC load.
The final climate-steering layout introduced dynamic features:

Supply lines operate without ducting to optimize structural space.

Returns operate without push and pull fans directly facing the vents.

Duct fans are powered up and HAF fans are positioned at the front of the tables to eliminate microclimates.

3. Lighting Optimization and Equipment Sourcing
To reduce capital complexity and ongoing maintenance, Sostanza recommended fixed light maps over costly motorized hanging solutions. We calculated the hanging heights for their inventory of 89 DLI lights and successfully mapped the installation heights for an additional 25 bar-style fixtures to guarantee uniform photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) across the canopy.

4. Clean-Room Propagation, Cloning, and IPM Protocols
Establishing healthy, virus-free starting material remains a core component of sustainable yields. We upgraded Cannavation's propagation systems by introducing proper domes, trays, and specialized propagation lights. To manage pests without chemical residues, Sostanza introduced Koppert biological solutions specifically targeted to combat mealybug pressure, alongside strict diagnostic protocols to screen for Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd).

5. GACP SOP Onboarding and Ongoing Support
Sostanza delivered a comprehensive standard operating procedure (SOP) package, enabling the on-site team to align their daily actions with GACP requirements and secure their certifications in record time. We continue to support Cannavation as a technical partner, providing regular advice on genetics selection, climate calibration, and labor optimization.
